Join us in celebrating ESEA Heritage Month at esea contemporary! Guests will enjoy a showcase of artworks by Hong Kong BN(O) communities from the ‘Moving Forwards, Sideways’ workshop series held at esea contemporary, reflecting on the theme of ‘Changing Seasons’ for ESEA Heritage Month. Additionally, there will be a live set from DJ Stanley Chow, delicious refreshments, and the opportunity to connect with the community and embrace the evolving cultural landscape of East and Southeast Asian heritage in the UK.
Funded by the North West RSMP, this event is free to attend, but please register via the link in bio to help us manage numbers.
esea contemporary is the UK's only non-profit art centre in Manchester dedicated to showcasing and supporting artists and art practices rooted in East and Southeast Asian (ESEA) cultural backgrounds. As part of ESEA Heritage Month, we invite you to join us for a special welcome event for Hong Kong BN(O) holders on Friday, 6th September.
ESEA Heritage Month is a significant time to celebrate the rich cultural contributions of the ESEA community. By hosting this event, we aim to highlight the creativity and resilience of the BN(O) community. This is an opportunity to present their work and stories, contributing to the broader narrative of ESEA heritage in the UK.
Stanley Chow is an Illustrator by day and a DJ by night. He is probably best known for his portraits for the New Yorker magazine and in Manchester where his portraits can be seen dotted throughout the city. He also designed Manchester's Chinese New Year Celebration artwork for the past 10 years. Stanley’s DJ career started in Manchester’s Northern Quarter in the mid-nineties, and after nearly 30 years he still loves trying to make people dance.
Initiated by besea.n, every September we celebrate East and South East Asian heritage, culture, history and everything in between. It’s a chance to celebrate, acknowledge and learn about the incredible ways in which our communities have helped shape the UK.
