esea contemporary is pleased to host Points-of-You® Conflict Management Workshops in collaboration with experienced intercultural coaches Karen Cheung Dyer and Selana Kong.
In this collaborative effort sessions are tailored not only to ESEA communities but also to those with a general interest in conflict prevention, resolution, and recovery, with the aim of fostering enhanced cohesion and understanding within society. These workshops serve as a valuable resource, particularly for new immigrants, helping them to acclimatise to their new life in the diverse and vibrant city of Manchester.
Navigating a new cultural landscape can present unique challenges, and acquiring effective conflict management skills is crucial for individuals undergoing this transition. Learning to manage conflicts in a cross-cultural context is essential for fostering positive relationships, breaking down communication barriers, and building a sense of community. The integration of art with creative thinking skills equips participants for effective daily problem-solving. By engaging with Points-of-You® coaching games, where visual prompts and conversational processes enable the participants to broaden their perspectives, explore new possibilities, and inspire action to navigate life more effectively, empowering them to take charge of various situations.

Karen relocated from Hong Kong to Manchester in 2022.
She is an experienced mediation coach, accredited mediator, trainer, business owner, Points-of-You facilitator, and part-time lecturer in universities
Selana is an Accredited Executive Coach, International Mediator, and Trustee.
She serves as the Association of Coaching Regional Coordinator and is the Managing Director of the International Dispute Resolution and Risk Management UK Centre. Originally from Hong Kong, Selana is now based in North Wales.
‘Communities in the Making’ is an ongoing series of events that unites community-led and process-driven approaches to fostering co-existence amongst diverse underrepresented cultures and communities in Manchester. Through artist-led workshops, collaborative screenings, cross-disciplinary exchanges, and roundtable discussions, we actively ponder ways of nurturing agency to lay the groundwork for community building.
Throughout the course of the programme, members of the public are invited to gather, collaborate, and contemplate with us. We believe in the inherent creativity of every individual and strive to establish meaningful connections that are reflective of our current moment, and meet the needs and aspirations of the community. ‘Communities in the Making’ activates listening, interdependency, and the cultivation of new experiences to celebrate diasporic knowledge, and ground our work in encounters and experimentations.
